Anti-Pseudomonas Antibody

Aridis’ human monoclonal antibody inhibits Pseudomonas aeruginosa, a ubiquitous gram-negative bacterium, implicated as primary pathogen in several infectious diseases including chronic lung infections in cystic fibrosis (CF) and hospital acquired pneumonia patients. In the lungs of CF patients, over-production of alginate is accompanied by conversion to the mucoid phenotype of P. aeruginosa and a parallel decline in lung function and disease progression. Our antibody, which binds to alginate, has been shown to mediate phagocytic killing of P. aeruginosa in vitro and also protects mice against P. aeruginosa lung infections1. The antibody initially will be developed as a first line therapy to control chronic P. aeruginosa lung infections in CF patients. A second indication is for the treatment of ventilator-associated pneumonia in hospital intensive care units. The combined market for these indications is ~$0.5-0.6B. Aridis’ therapeutic antibody can also be used to address other opportunistic P. aeruginosa infections including urinary tract infections, eye infections, and burns.

Aridis has been selected as exclusive licensee of the Pseudomonas antibody technology by the Brighams Women Hospital and Harvard School of Medicine. Aridis will develop the antibody with its own stabilization technology and a simple to administer pulmonary delivery system.
