Aridis Awarded $1.9M by PATH Vaccine Solutions to Develop Stable Formulation for Rotavirus Vaccine
San Jose, CA June 1st, 2007

Aridis Pharmaceuticals, LLC announced today that it had received $1.9 million in funding support from a leading non-profit foundation PATH (Seattle, WA). The award is part of the rotavirus vaccine development project, which is funded by The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. The funds will be used to develop formulations for the live attenuated human-bovine reassortant rotavirus vaccine (also called RotavaxTM) with sufficient stability and a cost-effective manufacturing process for developing world implementation.

Aridis shall make the successful rotavirus vaccine formulations available to PVS and designated vaccine manufacturers for use in Developing Countries. Aridis retains exclusive rights to such formulations for developed world territories.

Dr. Vu Truong, Aridis’ co-founder and Chief Technology Officer of Aridis stated that “We are very pleased to be collaborating with PVS on developing stable, cost-effective vaccine formulations, which we believe will have a very positive impact on the delivery of this important vaccine to all locations in developing countries”. "We believe that Aridis’ expertise in developing formulations for live vaccines will result in the first room temperature stable rotavirus vaccine, which also can be implemented cost effectively in the developing world".

About RotavaxTM
RotavaxTM is Aridis’ clinical track, oral vaccine that prevents gastroenteritis due to rotavirus infection in infants. It is a live attenuated multivalent human-bovine rotavirus vaccine being developed under license from the U.S. DHHS National Institutes of Health (NIH). Rotavax™ has successfully completed six NIH and Wyeth sponsored Phase 1 and 2 clinical trials with strong safety and efficacy results. Aridis has exclusively licensed this vaccine for the North American and European markets. Rotavax™ will be delivered in a competitively superior oral dosage form designed to be more convenient and cost-effective to administer. It will be the first vaccine stable at room temperature to simplify storage and shipping requirements and delivered in a convenient oral thin film (“Listermint”).
